Gaby Ortiz was born in Mexico and grew up surrounded by the aromas and colors of her family’s ice cream production and distribution business in Monterrey, N.L. From an early age, she learned from her parents that perseverance, hard work, customer service, and consistency were the secret ingredients of true success.
With these values deeply rooted in her heart, Gaby decided to take the family tradition beyond borders, blending the heritage of her childhood with her own entrepreneurial vision. She arrived in Houston, TX, with the dream of sharing the artisanal Mexican flavors that had shaped her childhood memories.

In 2006, she opened the first El Kiosko store in north Houston. Her goal went beyond offering ice cream, paletas, and troles: she wanted every customer to enjoy an authentic experience — a warm, welcoming space where the nostalgia of Mexico could be felt in every detail, always accompanied by exceptional service.
The concept quickly captured the hearts of the community. Just a few years later, El Kiosko began franchising, achieving steady growth until reaching 18 stores across Houston, TX.

Yet Gaby’s legacy cannot be measured only by the number of stores. Alongside building her own business, she dedicated herself to supporting other women entrepreneurs, inspiring them, sharing her knowledge, and helping them create their own ventures. In doing so, her story became a source of strength and encouragement for new generations of women who saw in her a true example of resilience, generosity, and leadership.
